MORNING SICKNESS

Morning sickness is usually a general feeling of un- wellness, nausea or vomiting sensation and can occur anytime during the day in pregnant women .It is mostly experienced during the early stages of pregnancy, from 1 to 12-16 weeks.

Causes

There is not one clear reason for morning sickness, it could be either due to the release of the number of hormones in the body, varying blood pressure or due to changes in the digestive system.

While morning sickness typically stops around the 12th to 16th week, it can continue through to the last few weeks of pregnancy with no major damage to the mother or baby. 'Morning' sickness does not essentially occur in the mornings, it is a collective expression for feelings of nausea and vomiting at any time during pregnancy.

Morning sickness can take diverse forms. Some women may feel a little sick at some time during the day, however no specific action is required to fight the symptoms as they are only natural. Others might vomit more than once a day and may feel unwell about the entire day.

Remedies

Classic Morning Sickness – Nausea, first thing in the morning could be due daily chores on an empty stomach. Best thing to do is eat some simple food, like a dry biscuit, or piece of toast, or having a cereal with milk before going to bed as milk takes longer to digest and keeps you fuller for a longer time.

Some women feel nauseated at the sight of some foods, while few of them find the smell of certain foods nauseating. Try buying foods that need little preparation and therefore you spend less time cooking

Other smells like perfumed products such as soaps and washing products, or the odor of cigarette smoke, makes morning sickness worse, try staying away from these.

Keep taking fluids at regular intervals, even if it is water, keep sipping often rather than having glassfuls at a time.

Don't be too anxious and choosy about eating a healthy diet, it is always better to eat something, rather than nothing for fear of putting on weight, never starve yourself.

Ginger intake in some form is apparently helpful in stopping nausea and morning sickness. Root ginger is sold in health food stores and could be grated and chewed when required. Ginger tea is ideal, could be had either hot or cold. Ginger biscuits are an excellent dual-action remedy, as they are simple and don’t upset the stomach as well as ginger is included into the diet. , ginger marmalade is another option as it can be used as spreads on breads and biscuit.

Avoid fatty, rich or spicy foods if suffering from morning sickness, as these types of foods can prompt symptoms.

Try sleeping whenever you feel like it. Drowsiness can make morning sickness worse; taking short naps can help fight nausea.
