PREPARE FOR HOSPITAL STAY

You may well think that staying at the hospital to deliver would be simple and plain but it can surely be slightly complicated. By 36/40 weeks, you should mostly be peaceful and relaxed and try and save up your energy for labor, and not rush around for all those last minute items you may need - a little groundwork in advance can be very helpful and beneficial.

Going In

Also make a list of what your partner might need:

* important phone numbers * hospital bag ready in the car, * the fuel tank full and the map of the best route/s to the hospital. * a pair of clothes and toiletries, (if your labor turns into an all night stay for him, as well)

Formalities

* copies of your passports, to hurry up registering your new born * insurance and hospital patient card * a little cash for any personal expenses

Going Home

You will most likely head home early in the day and would want to get your baby used to his/her new surroundings. Make sure to stock up the groceries, together with essential baby items, so that there is no last minute rush to the store. If you are plan to formula feed, you would then need all the required equipment all set and even if you plan to breast feed, you may then want to have the necessary stuff ready at home.

Most importantly, before you check into the hospital, try to be calm and get a little rest and make an effort to spend some quality time with your husband for that sense of togetherness.
