CESAREAN BABIES
Cesarean delivery is the birth of a baby by surgery. The doctor performs an incision in the tummy and uterus (womb) after which the baby is removed. This surgical procedure is called a cesarean section or c-section. The normal and natural means for a baby to be born is through the mother’s vagina .however at times vaginal birth is not possible due to various complications during labor, which is when c-section may be out of harm’s way and safer than the normal vaginal birth.
Risks Involved
When cesareans are done, majority of women and babies do well, but it is a major surgical procedure with risks from the surgery itself and from local anesthesia. Cesareans may well add to the rising number of babies who are born “late preterm,” between 34 and 36 weeks development. Even as babies born during this time are believed to be usually healthy, they are likely to have medical problems than babies born a few weeks later at full term.
- Lungs and brain mature much late in pregnancy.
- Problems in Breathing
- Trouble in Feeding
- Jaundice
- Maintaining body temperature
- Anesthesia: few of the babies are affected by the medications given to the mother for anesthesia in the course of surgery. These drugs make you numb so that you don’t feel the pain but can make the baby inactive or slow.
It can be tough to point out the date your baby was conceived. Premature birth can be the outcome if the delivery is late even by a week or two. This may well make a difference in your baby’s health. It’s wise to consider this when setting up for a c-section.
Breastfeeding
Women who undergo cesarean are less probable to breastfeed their babies than women who have normal deliveries. This could be for the reason that they are sore from the surgery or have fewer moments with the baby in the hospital. If you plan to have a cesarean and want to breastfeed, have a discussion with your doctor about what can possibly be done to facilitate you and your baby for breastfeeding.
Risks for the Mother
There are also risks involved for the mother during a cesarean
- Increased bleeding, which may necessitate blood transfusion.
- Infection in the cut, in the uterus, or in other organs in close proximity.
- Reaction to medications, with the drugs used for anesthesia.
- Bladder or bowel injuries.
- Blood coagulation in the legs, pelvic organs or lungs.
