DAD’S ROLE IN DELIVERY

Most often, to- be dads wonder what they should be doing during their wives pregnancy and how can they lend that much needed support to her during and after her delivery. The pregnant woman is generally the focus of all attention and interest as she’s the one carrying the baby and not much is said about the do’s the dad is supposed to do. The first thing for expectant fathers to do is get educated about the entire process by taking classes about childbirth or discussing with experienced dad’s which half the job is done. Then follows what they are actually supposed to do.

Early Labor

Through the first few hours of labor, your foremost work is diverting her attention .She might want her back or feet rubbed, you could just do so. Walk her around or play her favorite music. Cheer her to do something else other than staying in bed and fearing the next contraction.

Active Labor

During this time, your job is to help keep her alert and focused. She shouldn't stop and panic. Encourage her to keep going and take deep breaths if she gets edgy or tense during a contraction.

Delivery

This is your big moment, an experience you'll remember all your life. First thing is STAY CALM, this is asking for too much but you need to calm yourself as your wife’s situation is your priority as she needs your help and support at this time. You’ll have to encourage her with her every push. Also take some moments to watch the actual birth, give that comfort to your partner when you get that cherished first look of your baby's head.

The Repercussions

You could grab a camera as your partner holds your baby for the very first time. Once you are done with the shots you could finally hold your baby let him study see you and begin the let the father-child bonding begin.

The Unexpected

Once the labor begins, be prepared for the unforeseen and unanticipated. If the labor isn't going smooth, your wife may need an intervention that she hasn’t been signed up for, like a pain medication or a cesarean section. If there's an instantaneous decision to be made, do so with a cool head.
