PARENTING STRATEGIES
Parenting is one of the most challenging and quite a complicated task. A huge responsibility to shoulder for first time mom and dads . Raising and guiding babies into loving, disciplined , responsible individuals surely starts at home and positive and effective parenting lays the groundwork for it all. Parenting could be stressful initially but a little patience and perseverance is all that is needed to deal with your tots.
What You Ought To Do
- Be involved in your children’s activities however small and trivial they are, like you could sit while he is sitting with his paper and pencil and scribbling away. This builds a certain sense of comfort and encouragement in him.
- Eat lunches and dinners together regularly , feeding him sometimes making them feel loved and cared.
- Instill good manners in them , teach them to greet and respect elders, good morning , thank you , sorry , good night are the basic things you could teach them by the time they are two and a half to three years old.
- Reward them with something they’d love to have when they do and say things right , this encourages them to perform better.
- Patience is the key , though you’ve had an exhaustive day , try and be patient with them, never shout or yell at them.
- If they mess things up in the house , which is most common a practice with kids around, teach and let them clean up instead of using harsh words and scaring them.
- Take them for walk or an ice cream at least once a week, bonding with them is important.
- Take interest in what they do, talk to them about what they have been doing and try to sense if there is anything going out of place.
- Watch them play or just play with them; this is a great way to bond with children.
- Understand that they are just opening up to the world outside and expecting them to learn and do things quick is asking for too much.
- Do not compare kids with each other; they might develop a sense of negativity towards each other.
- Teach your kids good values but don’t rush into them.
- Let them take responsibility for their actions, this will create a sense of accountability in them.
- Keep your kid’s age in mind when you talk to him / her.
- Do not have too many rules, lest the child might feel he is in detention all the time.
- Don’t pamper them too much; this could often result in unreasonable demands from kids with results often drastic.
- Be a good listener. Encourage their interests but at the same time do not let them overdo anything.
- Be their guide, help them out in their home work, teach them to excel and be the best at what they do.
- Inculcate a sense of leadership in them; do not raise them as timid and shy kids.
- Observe their behavior with their peer groups and correct them if required.
- Have a positive attitude about being an effective parent, it is alright if you go wrong at times , remember nothing and no one is perfect.
- Discuss your child behavior with your partner, you are bound to have differences, deal with them with maturity.
- Going out for family outings is an excellent way to bond with each other.
- Above all make your home a safe and homely place to live in providing the right ambience for a great childhood.
